We are a Western Martial Arts school located in Sacramento, California. Our focus is the sword arts of renaissance Spain and Portugal. We study period manuals for historical knowledge and perspective, and use our collective fencing, martial arts, research, and teaching experience to bring these arts to life.
At the Sacramento Sword School we practice both martial and sporting forms of swordsmanship, but only ones that are fairly close in nature, which means our material does not extend into the modern Olympic sport. If you are interested in Olympic style fencing, there are several excellent clubs in the area; please see our links page for more information. If you are interested in how to use a sword in the same manner that centuries of fencers whose life and honor depended on it, we are the school for you!
Our philosophy: We do this out of interests in history, swordsmanship, sports, martial arts, and fun. We are not interested in teaching a potentially dangerous martial art to someone who is going to misuse it. Also, we are not a reenactor group, although many of us are reenactors with other groups. The Sacramento Sword School is about swords and how to use them.
